Good afternoon all
Since I found out that they only change the bed spreads at the super 8s or for that matter clean them once a month, I have given up on Days Inns and Super 8S ALL TOGETHER. Not only are they dumps, they are just down right a nasty place to lay your head after a hard day of peddling.here is a Google search that shows just how nasty places like the days inn and super 8s are. Go figure they are all owned by the same company .
When I get home from my trip, I am going to get a sign made about the Days Inn and go picket the local one in Palm Beach for a few days. I can hardly wait to see their reactions while they try to get rid of me from the public side walk.
Now onto Biker Secret number 1.
This rule is one of my prime secrets of any bike trip:
Get yourself a Corporate Lodging Card
You don’t have to have a business to get one. If they ask you for one just make a name up and register it with the state for 50 bucks.
Through this entire trip I have gotten with this card 20 to 50 per cent off my hotel bill each time I have used it.
Some of the places I used it was the super 8s, but since I am through with them, for about 10 to 15 dollars more a night, I can get the Fair Field Inn by Marriott or a.Holiday inn Express for usually 64 to 70 dollars a night . The walk in rates are 100 plus.. They even have an app that you can put on your smart phone that lists all the places that take them.
This would be great for guys like Bob Puzio (my attorney 954 489 7766) who travel a lot for.court cases and many other professions too. It is also great if you just want to travel with your family and use it for that too.
The card is tied in with your credit card.
How I found out about it was by simply asking a hotel clerk in Mississippi. I asked her why there were only trucks and service vehicles that parked at certain hotels.
This was the answer I got.
When you are riding around on a bicycle into the crazy places I do, you notice these things.
I also just got news that my bike is fixed. So it looks like I will be back on the road tomorrow crossing into Georgia.
Looks like I am stuck here in Auburn Alabama for a few days until parts come in to fix my bicycle. Had to call a tire place and get a 30 mile ride into Auburn.
The Peddlar Bicycle shop in German Town put on a supposedly high end crank. It turned out that I should have never gone into that place to get my bicycle serviced.
Now the cycle shops in Auburn no nothing about the cycle tourist needing on the spot service like we normally get.
Some guy at one place said it would take a couple of days to look at and so on. Give me a break!
Others said about a week!
Ended the day in some town I can’t even pronounce the name of.
I am staying at the Holiday Inn Express. This is where the smart people stay. I ended the day 638 miles from home in West Palm Beach. I rode through the hood in Birmingham today. I stopped at Walgreens to get some pAssport photos to send to Smoking Hot Wife ( see WWW.smokinghotwife.tv) for my upcoming trip to China with Rastaman. The lady in the store said for me not to leave my bike unattended . I asked her why not. She told me that I was now in the most crime ridden neighborhood in America.
I told her that it did not look any worse than any other neighborhood I went through. The cops in Arkansas told me not to go though the hood in Memphis, but I did anyways while making two new friends there.
I have to say that all these people that told me not to travel through the hood are probably all afraid of their own shadow.
If you walk around unafraid and like you own the place, no one is going to bother you if you don’t go looking for trouble.
I rode today for about 14 miles with a lady from Canada. She and her husband were doing some hill climbing. We had a nice chat about our lives. She has been here in America since 1996,living in Birmingham. She told me that Birmingham is one big small town where you know.everyone .
I will be crossing the Georgia state line tomorrow or early Tuesday morning. I am only 133 miles away from Atlanta.
I expect to be in dadeville Alabama tomorrow. On Monday I.expect to be crossing into Georgia.
Tonight I am only 721 miles from home. Tomorrow I will be riding to Dadeville Al.
Monday night it looks like I will be staying just south of Columbus Ga somewhere.
Here is how the following chains of motels rate in order of dumps : 1 is worst and higher up to 10 is cleaner
1 -Super 8 -one step above motel 6-they.wash their sheets once per use, but the bed spreads once a monrh.
1 -Days inn – same as Super 8
10-Holiday iNn Express -wash spreads and sheet once per use .
9- Best Western -good value for the money -wash spread once per use , but some motels are old.
10-Hampton Inn , Hilton Garden Inn are the same as Holiday inn
All this was explained to me by a guy who used to be in the motel business, but now owns a Subway franchise.
It makes sense too because at the cheaper motels one never sees the maids carts with the bed spreads in them. All you ever see is the sheets.
